MYSTERY TRIP TO EL CAMPO
Why in the world would you sign up and pay good money to go on a trip and not know what your destination is? I'm always surprised that people are willing to do this. I guess we all like surprises, don't we? Thirty senior citizens took a chance and boarded the bus for parts unknown in July, 2011. We ended up in El Campo, of all places! We found out that little town had a lot to offer the visitor. Our tour began at the Museum of Natural History. After a great BBQ lunch we sampled a bit of Denmark at a community called Danevang (pronounced "dan-uh-vang") where some Danish immigrants settled. There is a wonderful museum celebrating their Danish heritage and some early buildings located in Danevang. Before we left for our trip home, we did a driving tour of El Campo which has 22 marvelous murals painted on the sides of the city's buildings. It turned out to be one of our best trips.
